The Ultimate Symbol of Consumerism

There was something endearing. At the time of this project, I was approached by someone who saw my artwork and wanted to cash in on the NFT craze. I was already skeptical of the blockchain technology for non-fungible-tokens and as I fell deeper into the NFT and Crypto rabbit hole, I felt increasingly bothered by the culture of consumerism, hype, and hustling. I felt that the Flamingo was a perfect encapsulation of my thoughts on pop culture in the internet age, and the post-information age.

Project Header

These pieces are made going back and forth from analog and digital. Using whatever analog techniques I could while also using digital photo manipulation techniques to create the image I wanted. The Flamingo becomes a playful and seemingly amorphous vessel for politics. I could make a political image without being branded as overtly political.
